Manus Province is gearing up to celebrate the distinct Manus Canoe Culture scheduled on December 7.

National Capital District [NCD] Governor Powes Parkop arrived in Manus Province on Friday in preparation for the inaugural Manus Canoe and Culture Festival.

The highly anticipated event will take place at the Chalakupwen Beachfront in Mokoreng village, Los Negros LLG.

As the patron of the festival, Governor Parkop’s visit emphasizes the event’s theme “Celebrate our History, Inspire our Future.”

Parkop explained that while the festival offers many potentials, its most significant purpose is to celebrate the distinct Manus culture, particularly the canoe culture.

He stressed that the canoe culture is vital to the province’s heritage and ancestry, especially considering Manus is a large maritime province.

“The people maintain a powerful connection with the ocean, and the canoe is an essential part of this cultural identity,” Parkop said.

“By embracing the cultural beauty of Manus, this festival will ultimately be beneficial to the contemporary economy of both the province and the country,” he added.

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Belden Nama, is expected to arrive in Manus tomorrow to officially launch the Culture and Canoe Festival.
