Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander [PPC] Chief Superintendent John Sagom says six suspects have already been arrested over the brutal killing of two young female university students and a male secondary school student in Mt Hagen almost three weeks ago.

PPC Sagom confirmed the arrests during a media conference in Mt Hagen yesterday, saying police are also responding to recent concerns and demands issued by the relatives of one of the deceased. He assured the families that the ongoing investigation will be “thorough, independent and balanced.”

He said police are committed to ensuring that all responsible parties face the full force of the law.

Sagom also appealed to members of the public, especially those who may have witnessed the attack, to come forward with information.

“We need community support. Anyone who saw or knows something must report it. Your information could help us deliver justice to these young students,” he said.

He extended condolences to the grieving families and urged the community to stand together and support the investigation process.

Sagom also acknowledged the pain and frustration felt by the relatives and the public, adding that police are doing everything possible to restore confidence and maintain order in the area.

Toward the end of the briefing, PPC Sagom described the attack as “heinous, barbaric and completely unacceptable.” He said although the incident occurred weeks ago, it continues to shock the province and the nation.

“There is absolutely no justification for such violence. These were innocent lives taken in a very cruel manner,” he said.

Police investigations are continuing.
