Counting of votes for the local level government election in Madang Province has started in some local level governments, and in several councils, wards have already declared their councilors elected.

In the Ambenob Local Level Government of Madang District, counting is running concurrently with polling.

Assistant Returning Officer, Luke Banag said wards that have concluded polling are going straight into counting.

Counting for Ambenob LLG began on Tuesday, soon after the first ward completed polling.

It was also the first to make a declaration in Madang Province.

As of 1:30 pm Friday, Ambenob LLG had declared eight ward councilors out of the 23 wards.

It was expected to make the ninth declaration later Friday afternoon.

Of the 8 declared ward councillors, only two have retained their seats and they are Steven Igerup of ward 23 and Willie Seth of ward 3.

Igerup was the first to be declared and Seth was declared on Thursday.

Word from the Sumkar District is that the two new LLGs of South and North Karkar have also made some declarations, however; there are no detailed reports from them.

LLGs in the Bogia District have also reported the same but again with no specific data.

Meanwhile, the counting for Madang Urban was set to start at 1:30 pm on Friday; however, it had not yet started at the time this report was filed.

Counting for Madang Urban will be held at the Marape Hall at Tusbab Secondary School.
