Student slept through exam

A grade 8 student in an urban school in Madang slept through the first exam paper yesterday.
The student was apparently intoxicated with alcohol, according to school authorities.
Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, said he was made aware of the student's behavior yesterday afternoon, well after the examination has ended.
From information received by police, the boy was drunk when he went to school to write the first exam paper.
"He did not write anything but slept through to the end of the exam. It's hard to understand this sort of behaviour," PPC Baim said.
Acting Superintendent Baim said police have carried out awareness after awareness yet ignorant, stubborn people don't take responsibility.
He added, "Every child is a man. We are not teaching children. I will be sending police officers to deal with the particular student since the teachers at the school are not feeling safe."

This newsroom is yet to verify whether or not the student from Jomba Primary School will be allowed to sit for the remaining examination papers this week.
Meanwhile, prior to the examinations, PPC Baim has been very vocal about students' behavior leading up to the examinations, and even after.
Without fail, he has been constantly reminding students through the media to be prepared for the examinations and to abstain themselves from alcohol, drugs, and other unlawful behaviors as they prepare for their final examinations.
Mr Baim stressed that police will not hesitate to serve suspension notices to any misbehaving students who think they can threaten school authorities when expelled from school. They will be dealt with seriously.
"I will not tolerate such animal brain kids," he said.
We are here to protect lives and properties, and the school concerned is a government entity and must be protected for our community.
