The Simbu Provincial Police Command has arrested 18 male students from various high and secondary schools in the province in a recent crackdown on student misconduct.

The students, who were found to be intoxicated after their Grade 10 exams, are currently being held at the Kundiawa Police Station.

According to Simbu Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, the 18 males were apprehended for public intoxication and are facing charges related to the offense.

He said the police have set a bail of K1000 for each student, which will not be waived, warning that such behavior will not be tolerated.

"We will not compromise on discipline and respect for the law. Students must understand that their actions have consequences, and a criminal record can affect their future opportunities," he said.

The Simbu PPC said police has taken the step of fingerprinting and photographing the students and will update their records accordingly.

"This move is aimed at deterring students from engaging in similar behavior in the future. I want to warn Grade 12 and 8 students to learn from this and not repeat the same mistake after their examinations," he said.

Simbu people have commended the Simbu Provincial Police Command for taking a firm stance on student misconduct.

Parents are urged to work together with the authorities to ensure students behave responsibly.

John Mia, a parent, said such action by the police serves as a reminder to students and parents alike of the importance of discipline and responsibility.

He hopes this action will serve as a deterrent to students who engage in misconduct and encourage them to focus on their studies and future.
