Remote island communities access health care from visiting medical ship

People living along the coastline in Madang Province will get a rare opportunity this month to access medical services.
Locals on the Raikos coastline and those on the remote islands of Long and Crown Islands will have the Youth With A Mission [YWAM] medical ship visit the district.
The outreach program is sponsored by the Raikos District Development Authority and begins today.
The medical ship moored at Bongu Village in the Astrolabe Bay Local Level Government area yesterday were treated to a traditional welcome by the local people, especially the elders and community leaders.
A program being distributed by the Raikos DDA said the outreach runs from October 13 to October 23.
The team will be performing general check-ups, eye care and glass fitting, dental care, immunization, prenatal and postpartum check-ups.

Besides the medical services, the team will also be engaging with the communities and schools in Bible studies, worship services and distribution of the Bible in SD cards.
YWAM has been in Madang for some years and has been conducting outreach programs for people in the maritime districts of Madang, Sumkar and Raikos.
