A total of 83 students in the new Kopen National School of Excellence in the Enga Province have sat for Advance Mathematics Paper 1 this morning. This is a historic occasion for the institution since gaining the new status.

Kopen is the only school of excellence in the country to phase out grades 9 and 10 students and made the transition into the new status.

The school will also offer STEM subjects starting with its first-grade elevens in 2026.

Head of Department for Language and Literature, Mrs. Martha Ligogo said the teachers have done their part, and she is confident that students have been prepared well for the exams.

"Kopen National School of Excellence was sitting for the final examinations. The pioneers and we are so grateful that we have come this far. We have brought the students this far and now they are sitting for their final examinations.

"In preparation for their examinations, we have done a lot of things for them. We had night and afternoon classes. We cancelled the holidays, and they stayed in the school to have remedials,"Mrs Ligogo said.

Meanwhile, the principal Saju Francis expressed gratitude towards everyone that contributed to this outcome.

He further stated that the institution is better choice for student around the country who have big dreams.

"We have had some problems and challenges. We passed through all. We are sending 83 students to the national examination.

"This morning our students are sitting for Advanced Mathematics Paper 1. If you have ambitions to aspire and go through STEM education to get a government scholarship, this is one of the choices."

The Enga Provincial Government under the leadership of Sir Peter Ipatas, the Provincial Administration, the first governing council and everyone have also been appreciated for their strong support to push the institution forward.
