As Papua New Guinea celebrated it's 50th Independence Anniversary, one of the prominent lawyer’s Nelson Saroa urged young Papua New Guineans to draw inspiration from their elders and actively contribute to nation-building.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Saroa village, he reflected on his personal and professional journey in his 22 years as a practicing lawyer and 18 years running his own law firm, which he labelled as his honor contribution to post-independence PNG.

“I draw inspiration from my parents, uncles, aunties, and village elders, who gave me the strength to raise Saroa’s flag wherever I go,” he said. “We must give encouragement, motivation, and inspiration to the next generation.”

The local community in Rigo, Central, joined rest of the country yesterday to celebrate the 50th Independence with string of activities starting with the flag raising ceremony, speeches by village elders and dignitaries, and contemporary dancing performances.

Saroa, who was given the opportunity to speak, challenged families to invest in the future of their children, emphasizing the importance of setting goals and guiding young people towards careers in fields such as law, medicine, engineering, and technology.

“Look at your child and work with them. Don’t just hope, invest in their future,” he said. “The next 50 years begin tomorrow, and we must set records and build on the foundation left by our forebears.”

He passionately spoke of the role of education and parental guidance in shaping responsible citizens, stating that the values taught at home often have the greatest impact.

Concluding his address, Saroa called on the community to work together to ensure that the achievements of PNG’s first 50 years continue to inspire and guide future generations.
