Juffa hails diversity as PNG’s strength at 50th Independence

Northern Governor Gary Juffa says Papua New Guinea’s diversity has been the key force uniting the country and preserving its democracy over the past 50 years.
Speaking at Popondetta’s Independence Oval during the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations yesterday, governor Juffa said PNG’s resilience and cultural diversity had allowed the nation to avoid the unrest and coups experienced elsewhere.

“We have come this far because of our resilience. Our diversity has been our greatest asset. Democracy has prevailed,” Juffa told the crowd.
He credited churches for playing a critical role in nation-building, saying they had provided education, health care, and social support in communities where government services were absent.
Ijivitari MP David Arore and Popondetta MP and Minister for Administrative Services Richard Masere also attended the event, joining thousands of people in marking the historic milestone.
