Luther Wenge, Morobe Governor

The late Morobe Governor Luther Akisawa Wenge has been described as a strong leader, seasoned lawyer and a man of principle, who dedicated his life to serving the people of Morobe.

Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso said this when conveying his condolences to the people of Morobe on the passing of Governor Luther Wenge this morning, at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

Mr. Rosso says that that the Songang's passing is a tragic loss and shock to the people of Morobe, and Papua New Guinea,on the eve of our country’s 50th Independence celebrations.

He says that his leadership, both as a three-term Governor from 1997 to 2012, and in his current tenure since 2022, was marked by an unwavering commitment to justice, development, and the well-being of his province, because his voice has always been bold and uncompromising, when it comes to protecting the rights of our people.

Mr. Rosso described Mr. Wenge as a true Morobean son, who stood tall in the political and legal arenas, and his contribution to Morobe and the nation will never be forgotten.

He also took time to pass his sincere condolences go to the Wenge family, his relatives, the people of Samangzing village, and the people of Nawae, and the people of Morobe Province during their time of loss and grief.
