The 2025 season of Kimil Rugby League kicked off on Saturday, marking the start of the league's 11th season in Jiwaka.

Kimil RFL President, Michael Tee, who has been a key promoter of rugby in Jiwaka, encouraged young players to see the Kimil field as a platform for developing their skills.

In his speech, Mr Tee highlighted the National Government's successful bid for Papua New Guinea to join the National Rugby League [NRL] as the 19th team by 2028. He urged local players to take advantage of this opportunity to better their abilities and become strong rugby ambassadors.

Mr. Tee also noted that rugby standards in the region have reached new heights, urging players to remain committed to improving and adapting to these higher standards.

He said the importance of compliance with league regulations, including the payment of player registration fees, which has been set at K20 following a recent decision by the PNGRFL committee during their 2025 Annual General Meeting in Port Moresby.

With the season now officially underway, Kimil RFL looks forward to another exciting year of rugby action.
