Double murder suspect apprehended in Madang

Police in Madang have apprehended a man, identified to be the prime suspect of a double murder in East Sepik Province.
The man identified as Emmanuel Kamai, aged 34 was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at Matupi Village, on the outskirts of town upon intelligence report.
Kamai is from Yenchen Village in Wosera- Gawi District, and he is accused of murdering two men, namely Sangi Jacob Kambak and Trevor Koma, in February this year.
As per the report, Kamai fled Wewak and went into hiding in Madang, evading police arrest.
Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, confirmed the arrest and commended the Madang Criminal Investigation Division [CID] for their swift action.
“Our officers acted promptly on reliable intelligence from sources on the ground acted swiftly in apprehending the suspect, who is now in police custody,” Baim stated.
Mr Baim has also issued a very stern warning to anyone considering fleeing to Madang after committing crimes elsewhere to stop.
“Don’t take refuge in Madang; we will hunt you down. Madang is too small for you to play hide and seek," PPC Baim said.
Kamai is currently detained at Jomba Police cells, awaiting his first court appearance at the Madang District Court.
Meanwhile the authorities are making arrangements for his transfer to Wewak, where the alleged crimes occurred.
Commander Baim also urged the public to continue supporting police efforts by reporting any sightings of wanted criminals and suspicious activities.
