Rain to continue through to May, says weather official

Papua New Guinea will continue to experience heavy rainfall in the coming weeks.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Benjamin Malai told NBC National News that PNG is facing severe weather patterns at this time of the year.
The country is now in its wet season or period right around the country which generally runs from December to April every year.
And the National Capital District, Central province and New Guinea Islands are experiencing heavy precipitation in less days, which is more concentrated.
NSW meteorologists Benjamin Malai explains the wet season is influenced by the northeast trade winds, which are more prevalent during those months.
‘we will continue to experience some severe weather. Right now, we have a warning of Heavy rains still in place, that covers Gulf Province, some parts of the islands, mainly New Guinea Islands, the four provinces of the New Guinea Islands. Manus, New Island, East West New Britain, and also Bougainville. So, we got heavy rain, flood warning, and covers, all areas here.’ Malai said
“parts of the islands, and Gulf. For Central, probably in the next two days, by me still got some precipitation, or rain, but you know not strong to mass, or heavy to mass. However, next week, by me experiencing some heavy rain again.” Malai added
The change is the wind direction will determine when the stops in the country.
When the winds change from southeast than it will bringing air over Papua New Guinea, where changes flow heavy rain now, and by minimal. ( So, that will bring, take us to the dry season period for, especially areas west of the Owen's Stanley range.” Malai explains
The Meteorologist says at this time heavy rain and flood warnings have been issued to NCD, Central and Mline Bay
The wet season is expected to end in May.
