Broadcast engineers and technical staff in the Pacific region will soon acquire skills and knowledge to be on par with evolving technology and equipment.

This is through the launching of the first ever Pacific Multimedia Academy in Suva,Fiji, recently.

Assistant Minister for Information Aliki Bia and Chairman of Fiji Broadcasting Corporation [FBC] Isoa Kaloumaira launched the Academy during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Pacific Media Partnership Conference [PMPC].

The Pacific Multimedia Academy will deliver on its promise to the Asia Broadcasting Union Pacific Island member countries.

The Academy was proposed at the 2024 Pacific Media Partnership Conference in Brisbane last year, and it's now in fruition

FBC Strategic Development Manager Daniel Singh says this is a Pacific solution for media personnel in the region.

"Therefore, we ask, we invite, and we humbly request that all Pacific broadcasters become part of it. It is your platform."

Mr Singh adds a memorandum of agreement has been signed between FBC and Fiji's national university to provide two specific curricula at the Pacific Multimedia Academy and The Fiji National University has now provided to the PMA two fully accredited programs.

"The first one is the certificate four in broadcast engineering for all the technicians and engineers in the Pacific.

"The second is certificate four in television production. "Singh said.

Fiji's acting Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad believes learning never stops for journalists.

"Media houses must look beyond daily routines and newsroom deadlines, desk rosters to reflect on and advance their industry and profession."
