The Internal Revenue Commission [IRC] of Papua New Guinea celebrated its 65th anniversary yesterday, marking a historic moment in its long journey of collecting revenue since 1960.
The celebration also honored 45 staff members, whose dedicated service ranged from 20 to an incredible 47 yrs.
The event, held at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby, brought together staff, dignitaries, and stakeholders to reflect on IRC’s achievements over 65 years.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner General Sam Koim highlighted IRC’s transformation from its modest beginnings into one of Papua New Guinea’s leading institutions.
Koim noted that these years of growth and success wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the staff, who ensure revenue targets are met to support the nation’s development.
Among the recipients of the long-service award was Arua Naime, who joined IRC in 1988 testifying about her her journey.
Another recipient, John Mailau served for 28 years, described his journey as demanding yet fulfilling.
Looking ahead, many believe that IRC will continue achieving milestones under the leadership of Commissioner General Sam Koim.
Koim praised the long-serving staff for their loyalty and dedication, calling them the backbone of IRC’s success in building a stronger revenue system for Papua New Guinea.
