Pre-Xmas police operations start in Mt Hagen

Police in Mt Hagen are gearing up for the festive season operations to ensure there is stability and peace during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
A show of strength was carried out recently in the city, signaling a message to the people of Western Highlands that police will be out in full force to uphold law and order, especially during the festive period.
Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Sagom urged the people to ensure all activities and celebrations are done in an orderly manner.
He said police will deal with those individuals or groups that take part in disturbing the peace of the public.
“Christmas is approaching so Police will be out in force. If you disobey the message we’re conveying in this awareness, you’ll be dealt with,” Sagom said in his awareness message to the public in Hagen.
“We will do our work to protect the peace and stability of the communities during this festive period but if you try to interrupt our operations, you will be handled accordingly.”
Mr Sagom said though police manpower is limited, they are prepared for the festive period police operation.
The police ops awareness which started last week will be carried out in and around the city until the Christmas operation launch in mid-December.
He called for cooperation with the communities and urged them to continue to abide by the law.
The Western Highlands Police Chief has also warned people from neighboring provinces coming into Mount Hagen to behave and avoid creating problems.
“I appeal to those people coming from Enga and Southern Highlands into Hagen to behave and abide by the law,” Sagom said.
“We don’t want you to bring additional problems from your provinces to Hagen.”
