Local PNG basketball team to compete in Brisbane tournament

A club in Port Moresby Basketball Association is set to participate in the Brine Kerle Academy tournament in Brisbane, Australia next week.

The Saints basketball team who received invitation from the BK Basketball is anticipated to compete in the tournament, scheduled from August 13-14 at St James College in Spring Hill.

The event will feature teams from Taiwan, Queensland based clubs and other participating teams from the region including PNG’s Saints outfit led by head coach Lawrence Lahari.

PNG 3x3 men’s basketball captain Sibona Kala will lead Saints with support from Bulie Budin, Donald Kala, Pauna Kule, Joe Jnr Mainakavika, Malcolm Maliaki, William Mirupasi, Misack Reali, Russel Sabuia, Sebastian Alewa, and Lindon Seeto.

Saints women’s Junah Ilagi, Nape Waka, Dianne Lahari, and Ronnie Pomat will also join the travelling team to benefit from the training and exposure at the tournament.

In addition to competing, Saints will take part in specialized coaching academy sessions designed to enhance their skills and experience.

“Competing in the BK Academy Tournament offers our players invaluable experience and the chance to represent Papua New Guinea on an international level.

The BK academy tournament is renowned for its high level of play and its emphasis on fostering young talent.

Lahari said as Saints prepare to take on teams from various regions, they are also eager to engage in cultural exchange and build friendships with other participants.
