Garamuts record second win in EAP qualifier

Papua New Guinea men’s Under-19 team, Garamuts, have made a flying start in the East Asia Pacific [EAP] division 2 Qualifiers after back-to-back wins.

The PNG Garamuts stunned Indonesia by 6 wickets to kick off the U19 World Cup qualification campaign yesterday before defeating Vanuatu by 9 wickets this morning.

The opening game set the tone for the Garamuts with a player-of-the-match performance by Gaba Frank who took out 4 wickets (of the 6) topped by 59 runs.

Indonesia managed 169 runs in the 50 overs fixtures as PNG top batters Rarua Dikana Jnr, Vagi Morea and Frank reached the target in 37.1 overs.

Frank led the runs with Dikana Jnr adding 39 from 64 balls and Morea completed the batting with 24 runs from 50 balls.

This morning’s game saw a master class showing from bowling duo Igo Morea and Ware Robin, led PNG to their second straight victory at Samoa.

Vanuatu were bowled out in just 25.1 overs, managing 70 runs in the first innings.

PNG batting sensation Dauncey Tom clipped 39 runs from 30 balls and Frank Collin Naime nailed 17 runs out from 21 balls.

The win has set an exciting platform against the host national for the final division 2 game with the winner advancing for the next phase of the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, women’s senior team, Lewas remain winless in the One Day International following consecutive losses to Netherlands and Scotland.
