New Zealand Deputy prime minister departs PNG

New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters has concluded his visit to PNG and departed this morning.

 Mr. Peters was on a two-day visit to Port Moresby as part of his scheduled tour of the Pacific Island Countries. He was sent off by his PNG counterpart and officials at 9.30 am.

Mr Peters and his delegation left for Vanuatu for the third stop-over of his official visit to five Pacific Island nations. 

During his short visit to Port Moresby, Mr. Peters had talks with the PNG Foreign Office Minister and Prime Minister James Marape to establish an understanding of various partnerships in trade and investment, health, education, and security.

The New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister is expected to visit New Caledonia after Vanuatu and then to Tuvalu before returning home.

However, according to Radio New Zealand, Mr. Peters has canceled his visit to New Caledonia due to unrest in the French-Pacific territory.
