The Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association (POMWSA) will stage its grand final this weekend, president Ian Soweni says.

The most anticipated game of the season is expected to light up Bisini Diamonds on Saturday as teams’ battle for supremacy in grades A and B.

The big dance will kick off at 10am with minor premiers Bears taking on Chebu in the B-grade encounter while Saints and Bears senior team setting up a mouthwatering A-grade decider at 2pm.

Bears B-grade side lost to Chebu in the quarterfinals and fought back last weekend, defeating a determined Gazelle team 14 runs to 4.

The reserve grade minor premiers for season 2023-2024 will be out to redeem themselves this weekend in the grand final against an equally competitive Chebu outfit.

The main game of the comp will also be a rematch as Saints look to settle the dust after losing to Bears a fortnight ago in the qualifiers.

Saints last weekend fought hard to defeat United Sisters 11 runs to 9, meeting the Bears once more in the decider.

Last weekend’s semifinal encounter went right to the bottom of the 7th innings with the scores locked 9 runs, however, Saints rose to the top at the bottom of the 7th inning, scoring two runs to win the game.

The grand final between Saints and Bears is predicted to be a tough tussle with both teams having a mixture of youth and experienced players, geared to bring home the winner’s trophy.

The PomWSA will be giving out season awards for the top batter, top infielder, top outfielder and top pitcher in both grades as well as individual awards for the grand final and trophies to the minor premier teams and winners and runners up.
